The worst thing that can happen to an affiliate is to be branded as 'fraudulent' by an affiliate marketing network, which then warns other affiliate networks...
Pulsar Marketing wants to help you; even if you are not an affiliate of one of our networks.
Many affiliate agencies consider the affiliate marketing actions listed below to be the most offensive.
1) Framing an affiliate program landing page without expressed approval. Many affiliate networks view framing as a violation of terms, but it can also affect how accessible search engines view your web site.
2) Content near affiliate links which violate approved marketing content.
3) Creating affiliate link graphics or text without first getting approval from the marketing agency.
4) Disguising identity, such as using an alias or not providing a actual, physical address. Many affiliate networks consider a person who attempts to generate commissions via a fraudulent identity as likewise being prone to commit revenue fraud.
5) Incentivizing offers without expressed approval from the affiliate network.
6) Sending unsolicited email. Also be careful when you purchase mailing lists, or when you use someone else's list. Before sending any emails, consult the affiliate program manager for approval, as well as to download any lists to scrub against your recipients. Pulsar Marketing offers its affiliates a free email marketing service.
7) Bidding on search engine keyword placement by using registered or copyrighted words/phrases.
8) Site and affiliate program promotion in a manner which misleads consumers. Do not offer services, products, guarantees, special rates, etc, which are not part of the program you are promoting. Likewise, do not represent yourself as an authorized spokesperson, legal representative or as an employee of the company who's program you are promoting.
9) Ignoring or delaying a response to requests from an affiliate network regarding site changes or modifications which may need to be done in order to properly advertise a program.
10) Engaging in public criticism of an affiliate marketing network or an advertiser who uses a third party affiliate network. Such action could jeopardize your ability to get accepted at other networks.
Tips to Affiliate Success:
Pulsar Marketing wants every affiliate to succeed, even those who are not members of any Pulsar Marketing network.
To help you become considered as a 'super affiliate' by affiliate networks, follow these tips:
1) Make it easy for your affiliate network to contact you.
2) If you have ideas for boosting traffic or conversions, let your affiliate marketing network know.
3) If you receive feedback from your site visitors about an affiliate program you are promoting, whether the feedback is positive or negative, relay that information to your campaign manager.
4) Build loyalty with the affiliate network which most meets your needs, whether due to fast support, high commissions, program variety, etc.
5) If you need help, ask your campaign manager. Most managers will eagerly assist you with things such as product placement, additional content, as well as learning resources.
6) Send an occasional letter (not email) to your affiliate network, letting them know your needs, as well as what you hope to achieve in the coming months. Let them know you are aggressively promoting their affiliate programs.
7) Grow with your network. If the affiliate network you promote has been in business for 3 or more years, it is likely growing. Add more of their relevant programs to your site, even if you must create additional pages. If the network has programs which are not relevant to your existing web site(s), consider creating a new web site.
8) Refer affiliate friends to your affiliate network, as well as new clients. Many networks offer higher bonus incentives for helping them acquire new client advertisers.
9) Analyze your conversions and incoming traffic. Simply generating a lot of clicks to a program does not always result in generating revenue. If you are generating high volumes of clicks but not adequate revenue, ask your network for advice on how to improve conversions. If may be a simple matter of targeting the wrong customers. For example: A person searching for 'how to get a credit report with no credit card', may be landing on your page about a 'how a credit card can get you a better credit report score'.
10) Carefully read and understand the network's Terms and Conditions. If there is something you do not understand or disagree with, contact the network.
