Search Engine Traffic Clicks and Competition

If you think search engine competition is tough now, you haven't yet seen the worst of it...

Pulsar Marketing wants its affiliates to be Super Affiliates. If your web site is suffering from little, or no search engine traffic, the problem can be many factors such as poor content, insufficient inbound links and inadequate optimization.

But there's another factor many affiliates overlook, and it's quickly becoming the largest, most dangerous factor...
...Competition...

As of May, 2006, GoDaddy.com alone had approximately 14.1 million domain names under its management (Source: GoDaddy Press Release, June 27, 2006)

As of the date of this article, according to DomainTools.com there are 74,433,315 active domains (counting only those with .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz and .us extensions).

These totals do not include all the free hosted sites and the myriad of free web blogs, such as MySpace.

And - as if that's not enough competition -even more domains, free hosted sites and blogs are activating daily!

As you can clearly see, since there are so many domains (and more launching daily) not everyone can have a top 10 search engine listing. The battle for keyword ranking is a war of attrition which will eventually overpower most all affiliates except for a very, incredibly small fraction. Plus, search engines constantly change their algorhythms which dampen reseller (affiliate) promotion of products and services. Major search engines already do not allow the use of affiliate tracking (re-direct) links for CPC keyword bidding. And with all the competition for keyword bids by companies with enormous advertising budgets, the cost per keyword click continually escalates. Inevitably, it will become a near-zero possibility for affiliates to gain any appreciable search engine traffic, much less the ability to afford competitive per click fees.

Search engines are not the only threat to affiliate traffic. The over-commercialization of search engines will drive many consumers towards 'bundled' services. If your web site is not part of those bundled services, you'll suffer even greater.

What are affiliates to do?

Affiliates need to take action now, while they still have appreciable search engine traffic. If they delay, they could suffer insurmountable odds.

As with any investment, affiliates should not focus on just one traffic strategy such as keyword bidding at search engines, nor for optimization for natural ranking. Eventually, these strageties will not be cost and time effective. Instead, affiliates need to diversify how; and where, they can obtain traffic.

And affiliates must develop ways to keep what precious traffic they do get... to gain repeat visitors for additional leads/sales.

Non-Search Engine Marketing Strategies:

To gain repeat visitors as well as additional sales, offer an email newsletter service to site visitors so they will remember your web site and revisit. This also helps affiliates earn additional revenue when visitors apply for products/services offered in the newsletters. Also, a percentage of subscribers will forward the offers, or recommend the site, to their friends/family.

But offering a newsletter subscription won't help you one bit if you wait until you've lost all; or most, of your search engine traffic. You need to build your subscriber list now, while you still have appreciable traffic.

Pulsar Marketing offers a free email marketing service to its affiliates, and does all the work for them. Pulsar Marketing creates the newsletters, sends them out on its server, includes each affiliate's ID tracking link in all offers, plus includes each affiliate's web site address so subscribers can remember, and revisit, the affiliate's web site.

Another resource for traffic is through offline marketing. Business cards and flyers may help, but limit exposure. For national exposure, a national magazine or newspaper is best. The ad does not have to be fancy, nor too descriptive. If; for example, a web site offers financial services, a simple ad like: "Need Credit? Visit ThisSite.com" is often adequate.

Strategic partnerships are an effective way to gain new visitors. For example, a web site owner who promotes credit cards can acquire related traffic from a payday loan web site. For maximum effectiveness, the partnerships need to extend beyond just a handful of web sites. You need exposure on dozens, if not hundreds (depending on how much revenue you desire to generate). Pulsar Marketing's Flat Fee Spectrum network offers affiliates the ability to get their advertisement and web site link onto other web sites. Not only can this help with natural search engine placement, the Flat Fee Spectrum network relieves the affiliate from having to worry if the partner sites still have their link placed, and placed properly. Flat Fee Spectrum sends a spider daily to those web sites, and if the partner site does not have the ad and link installed; or has it installed improperly, it does not award the daily ad rate to that partner. Affiliates using Flat Fee Spectrum get to pick the web sites they want their ad and link placed on, as well as decides how much per day to pay each web site partner.

Creating multiple web sites: If you create multiple web sites and update them constantly, you may be able to increase the volume of natural search engine clicks. Eventually; however, this strategy will become ineffective as the percentage of competitor web sites increases. Also, the problem with creating multiple web sites is the necessity to update them with fresh content, as well as placing, removing and replacing expired affiliate program links. Pulsar Marketing's AdSonic network can help you by automatically inserting relevant financial affiliate program links, and replacing expired links for you. AdSonic helps you stop wasting your valuable traffic on expired program links.

The days of abundant, free search engine traffic are coming to an end. And if you do not prepare now, you may find your web site buried beneath the millions of your competitors.
